How to get rid of “crow’s feet”
Crow’s feet are wrinkles in the corners of our eyes, and unfortunately, they’re the most pronounced wrinkles on our skin. UV exposure and aging are the 2 main culprits, but the good news is that we can do something about them thanks to shiatsu. First, what you need to do is place your index fingers on the outer corners of your eyes and warm the area a little bit. Then the process is simple:
- Movement: Press with your fingers, then release. You can also pull your muscles up toward the temples without releasing the fingers from the area.
- Time and repetitions: Repeat this 3 times for 3 seconds on both sides.
How to get rid of the wrinkles under your eyes
The skin under the eyes is very thin, which means it’s easier for it to become loose and wrinkly, and it ages faster than the rest of the skin on our bodies. Thankfully, shiatsu can help us rejuvenate this area and make the skin look tighter and a lot younger. What you need to do is put your index, middle, and ring fingers on the bone right under each eye, and the movement is simple:
- Movement: Press on the 3 spots lightly.
- Time and repetitions: Keep your fingers there for 10 seconds, then release. Repeat the exercise twice.
How to remove puffiness from under your eyes
We all know how puffiness under the eyes looks because we’ve probably all experienced it at some point. Well, shiatsu has a way to fix that for us as well, so we don’t have to look older than we really are. What we have to do is place our index fingers on the inner corners of our eyes. From there, we have to make movements, following the contour, as shown above, until we reach the outer corners of our eyes. Just try not to stretch or move your skin. After finishing the exercise, place both your index and middle fingers on the inner and outer points of your eyes and lightly press down on them.
- Movement: Follow the contour with your fingers. Then press lightly on both the inner and outer sides of your eyes.
- Time and repetitions: Do all of these steps 3 times for 3 seconds each.
Shiatsu is more than just a type of massage.
Shiatsu translates as “finger pressure,” and it’s a form of therapeutic massage that uses kneading, pressing, tapping, stretching, and soothing techniques, originating from the 1900s in Japan. It relies on the fingers, thumbs, and palms to apply pressure on areas of the body, which can benefit our health and well-being in more ways than one. Whether it’s for stress and anxiety, muscle and joint pain relief, fatigue, insomnia, or conditions such as sciatica, arthritis, and sinusitis, shiatsu massage can be really beneficial.
The principles of shiatsu
One of the fundamental concepts of Japanese medicine is qi (pronounced “chee”). When the qi is out of balance, symptoms such as colds, flu, headaches, body aches, muscular pain, or digestive difficulties may arise. Shiatsu stimulates and harmonizes the flow of qi throughout our bodies, which makes us feel well and healthy. Shiatsu therapists can recognize those imbalances in our bodies and, through sessions, attempt to fix them.
Bonus: Shiatsu exercises for parts of your face
Shiatsu helps to get rid of wrinkles between your eyebrows. All you need to do is place your index, middle, and ring fingers on the 3 dots shown above. Press on that spot for 5 to 7 seconds, then repeat it once more.
If your eyebrows are sagging, Shiatsu can help bring them back up for a more youthful look. Again, you should place your index, middle, and ring fingers on the outer, middle, and inner parts of your brows. After that, push your brows back up by applying medium pressure. Do that for around 7 seconds.
Did you know that shiatsu could have so many benefits? Would you add these techniques to your daily routine?
